Ten Signs of a 21st Century Classroom

Live streamed July 20. Recording is now available in the Webinar Archive.

We teach in 2016 so why do many of our classrooms look like they’re from the 1950s?  Concepts from engineering can help to modernize our teaching methods and classroom style. We'll discuss tools for improving technology integration, collaboration, creativity, inquiry, justification for answers, writing for reflection, problem solving, hands-on learning, the role of the teacher as a facilitator, and transparent assessment. Presenter: Patrick Goertz, Science Teacher/STEM Coordinator/Science Department Head, St. Dominic Savio Catholic School, Texas

Middle School Chemistry

Live streamed July 19. Recording will be available in the Webinar archive shortly.

This workshop will focus on activities from middleschoolchemistry.com—a free online resource from the American Chemical Society (ACS). Using hands-on activities and molecular animations provided on the website, we’ll explore the chemistry behind everyday observations and make connections to fundamentals of chemistry at a range of instructional levels. Presenter: James Kessler, Manager, Office of K–8 Science, American Chemical Society (ACS)
